Guess that bird...

photo: birdfreak.com
This cute little thing is a year round visitor here.    We call them the you-hoo birds because this variety [extra points if you guess the variety!] sounds like it's calling 'yoouu-hoo' when you hear it from a distance.

Hint:  The variety has a state name in it.   When you hear them from close by they say 'See-bee, see-bay'.   Answer below the fold.

 Answer:  Carolina Chickadee.

There's an east west line somewhere around Indianapolis and south of that line we get Carolina Chickadees; north of the line they get Black Capped Chickadees.   They're pretty much identical, but they have different songs.    Black Capped Chickadees say, 'cheeeese-burg-er'

  1. I love these birds. Here in WA we call them Black capped Chickadee's as well, but there call sounds a bit like "Chicka-dee-dee-dee"

  4. We had the "Chicka-dee-dee-dee" bird in our yard all the time in Maryland. I had no idea there was such a variety of the little chirpsters!. How cool.
