Christmas Books

All year long I debate about what books I can't live without and then just before Christmas I go nuts on Amazon and order a bunch of stuff to put under the tree for me.    If I'm lucky, people give me surprise books, too.   I love books.

This is the stack I ended up with this year.    They're wonderful and you'll be hearing more about each one of them soon.

[One of these days, I'll figure out how to make my camera not make books look all curvy.  I hate that.
1/8/12 update:  Got a better pic.  Thanks, Mom, for telling me how to work around the wide angle lens thing.]

What great books have you gotten lately?

  1. Those look like good reads! We have the Sibley's of our favorites, though B is particularly fond of the Kaufman Guide.

Have you ever kept bees before? We keep thinking about it, but we've not yet taken the leap.

  2. We can't wait to start bees. We'll do top bar hives so they're easier on us physically. I love Michael Bush's book because he's all about 'Work smarter, not harder.' He's got a great philosphy of beekeeping. It's good for the keepers and good for the bees.

  3. I can put you in touch with someone who kept bees while living practically in the middle of town here! She has since moved to Maine, but she was really into it and might be a good source. And she had a really cute bee-keeping outfit. :-)

  4. Thanks for the recommendation, Robin...I'll have hubby check it out. :)

  5. Bees. You're going to keep bees. I'm lucky to keep the change in the bottom of my purse. Go you! I'll expect some honey, honey.

As for books, I got a great one on wire-wrapped gems (whose name I can't remember and I'm too comfortable to go up and look). Also, I got "Cold Sassy Tree" which I just finished weeping over. And I'm reading "Crossed" by Ally Condie. It's a YA dystopian, and is a sequel to "Matched." I might be done with dystopia, but this is well written and quiet. Sometimes too quiet. But no children murder any other children with a spear, so that's a plus.

Also, I was given "Lion House Pies." I love pie. Pie is love.

    Thanks for sharing, as always!
