The Stalwart Red Barn

I am taking a for-real-live-and-in-person art class for the next few weeks.  It's my first ever.  It's a great class with great people and no pressure.   We started this composition exercise in class with a tonal painting of a scene and did not have to do a finished painting for homework, so I thought that was a good reason to buck up and do a finished painting.   It was a challenge on several levels.  I won't go into details, but I did want to post the painting I came up with.   Still some problems, but getting better. I keep reminding myself that it's OK to be a learner.

  1. I like your phrase..."it's ok to be a learner". I'm in the learning process with turning clay on the pottery wheel. I can see improvement with each pot, but I'm still at the point that 9 out of 10 are just practice and get recycled. Best wishes with your painting!

    1. I have never been brave enough to try pottery! I hope you're having loads of fun. The older I get, the more I see and truly understand the power of practice in the learning process. It builds skill, but also it builds confidence and confidence is a powerful creative tool. Building confidence along with technique is one of my top goals right now.
