Daffodils & Muscari

© Robin Edmundson, 'Daffodils & Muscari', watercolor, 14 x 10 inches.
Framed to 16 x 20 inches.  $375

Spring came this year regardless of the Shelter in Place orders.   The daffodils have been beautiful and my annual applications of bone meal mean more blooms, which makes me really happy.

The last of the daffs began blooming just as the grape hyacinths [muscari] came on and that blue and yellow combination just makes my heart sing.

What is blooming in your part of the world these days?

Daffodil Field

We've been planting daffodils in this field for a long time.    This is the time of year when we're happy we did it.

At last

We've planted hundreds of daffs over the years.   They're finally up and blooming this year.  Such a relief.

Old Paths

I love this time of year when the old fashioned daffodils bloom.

You can always tell where the old houses used to be because the daffs are planted on either side of the path up to the front door.

The front steps are still here, but the house is long gone.

Later in the year, you can see the daylilies pop up where they'd been planted along the front of the house.

These old flowers are like ghosts - a nice kind of visitor across time that reminds me of the folks who lived here generations ago.

Finally

Our daffs are blooming in great profusion.   These are the early ones - they pop up regardless of the snow and even though some of the leaf tips were frozen brown in our crazy March weather, they bloomed gloriously at the beginning of this month.  Finally.

Remember when it snowed?

I know it's kind of schizophrenic to go from tropical fruit trees yesterday to snow scenes today.   These are from a week or so ago.   Just a couple of days after those tornados ripped through southern Indiana.

That's what the weather in Indiana is like.

Not that it's actually snowing today.

And not like we grow tropical fruit trees here, except in greenhouses and studios with a lot of windows.

It's just that the weather in Indiana is variable.

Variable, I tell you. It's supposed to be 80 degrees again today.

And sometimes the daffodills bloom and then it snows a couple of inches overnight.

And in the morning Lily gets up and takes these gorgeous pictures of our gorgeous place in the middle of nowhere Indiana.

Life is good.

Spring!

The daffs are impatient this year.
I have to admit that I'm really enjoying the mild winter.

Really.

Really.
