Pop-Up Exhibit! Bloomington, Indiana - Courthouse Square

If you would like to see most of my winter themed work in person, hop on down to the square in Bloomington, Indiana to see eight of my winter pieces in the window next to Darn Good Soup [at 107 N. College Avenue].   The display should be up for the next few weeks.

Here is a quick preview video, courtesy of my daughter who stopped by to take a look last week.  [Sorry about the traffic noise]

If you get a chance to see the exhibit, drop me a line to tell me which was your favorite.

Happy holidays!

'Not Far Afield' Exhibit Ending - The Vault at Gallery Mortgage, Bloomington, Indiana

© Robin Edmundson, 'Leonard's Barn', watercolor, 10 x 14 inches.  NFS

On December 3, I'll be taking down the exhibit that is currently hanging at the Vault at Gallery Mortgage in Bloomington, Indiana.   [121 E. 6th St.]  I have been so grateful for the wonderful people who manage the space and invited me to show there.  John La Bella is a kind and gracious host.

It's a beautiful space, intimate enough not to get lost, but large enough to get some distance as you look at each piece.  I hope you get a chance to see the show one last time before it comes down.

Exhibit: Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology

Happy Fall, Everyone!    If you're in the Terre Haute, Indiana area, you need to stop by and see this show hanging at the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology from now until December 20.   The show is hanging in the main halls of Moench Hall 1st and 2nd floors.

I am so pleased to have my work hanging with the work of these other artists.  They are intelligent, articulate and inspiring.   Well worth the trip!

Last week, we attended the artist reception at the show and it was a delight to meet the other artists and many of the faculty and students who came through.  I am pleased to have three new collectors from this show.

One of the most wonderful things about Rose-Hulman is the evident appreciation for art.  They have a spectacular art collection, including one of my favorite watercolorists - D. Omer Seaman - and the halls are always hung with interesting and varied works of art.

Seating is arranged all along the halls and students gather to chat and study during the day, where they have a beautiful view of the current art show.

My work is hanging in the 2nd floor atrium and the light shows the colors to best advantage.  If you get a chance to go, please let me know what you think of the show.  I'd love to hear.

Opening Night Party Report

My exhibit, 'This is my Indiana' started off with a wonderful opening night party on August 4th.   The opening coincided with the local First Friday Gallery Walk that happens every month.   We had a nice large crowd during the evening.  It was awesome!

I owe a huge thank you to everyone who helped out at the opening:  Sally, John, Jen, Mary Beth, Eric, Claire, Lily, Sharon, Amy, Kimb. Juliann and others who stepped in to lend a hand when necessary.   Best friends and family ever.

I also want to thank the many people who stopped in to say hello and look at the art.  Artists can't continue to make art unless people  make an effort to come see it and to purchase it.  In addition, it is great to get feedback.  It's great to see how people felt about the pieces and the collection and the space.   I have many new friends who stopped in as part of the gallery walk.

Let's just start with the food, shall we?   John and Jen from the gallery provided savory snacks [the pork was fantastic!] and my friend Sally provided five different desserts, all of which disappeared during the party.  It was fabulous!

I invited pretty much everyone that I know to the party and many were able to come.  It's so much fun spending the night talking to your friends.   I had a couple of surprise visitors, too!   My sister drove down from Michigan to surprise me and my friends John and Joan came all the way from West Virginia to surprise me, too!    I have the best friends and family ever.

Here I am chatting with John and Teresa about one of the pieces.  [That's me in the purple vest.]

This area of the gallery looked so bright and cheery.   Another friend sent those gorgeous flowers on the table as a surprise.  They were the perfect colors to go with the tree studies on that wall.

Nothing makes me happier than to see people actively engaged in looking at the art.   It was interesting to see who gravitated toward which pieces.

The larger piece here, 'The mailman always brings treats', got a lot of attention and was the first piece to sell.

As the evening progressed, the place got busier and busier.   This was early on.   At one point there were more than fifty people in this area.

People were very happy that I had brought prints and notecards featuring my art as well.    It was great seeing people carrying the prints around with them.

I think my favorite times of the night were when I saw parents looking at the art with their kids.  This dad spent a lot of time with two of his daughters looking at the pieces.

All in all, it was a very successful night and we had a terrific time! Thanks to all of you for your support!

Here are the details for the rest of the exhibit if you'd like to go see it.

Framing...but not the house this time.

I'm counting down the days until the show [T minus 13 days].   So many things to get done!  Here are some recent pics of what I've been up to.

Framing.   I got all the tree studies framed and ready to go.   I'm so happy with how they look in the white frames!

...and more framing.   I do all of my own framing for anything 16 x 20 inches and under.   I have recently been reminded of the importance of sharp blades in the cutters.   I've never been so happy to see the mailman as the day I had to stop cutting in wait for the replacement blades.   [I'm well stocked now!]  These pieces will go in white mats with black frames.

My larger pieces go to a framer.   Just got these back.  I was so happy to find frames that go with the ones I've been using for the smaller ones.   This piece is 'Late March, Rusty Roof'  and is 28 x 34 inches.

The show is at The Vault at Gallery Mortgage in Bloomington, Indiana.  August 4 - September 29, 2017.   I hope you can come to the opening party on Aug 4th from 5:00 - 8:00pm.  I'd love to chat with you.  It's going to be a lot of fun!

IMA Exhibit Opening

Last Sunday was the opening of the juried member show of the Watercolor Society of Indiana [WSI] at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.  The show continues until December 2, 2016 in the community gallery across the hall from the gift shop.

That's me standing next to my painting in the gallery.  [Here's the post about my painting.]

It's not often that museums do shows of all watercolor.   Watercolor isn't as tough as oil or bronze and museums keep the important pieces locked away in climate controlled rooms.   So -- It's a real treat to see 45 works in one gallery.

I spent a couple of hours trolling the walls admiring every single piece.   The quality of art in the show was astounding.   The juror was John Salminen, an internationally known artist and recipient of over 200 awards.   I felt very very lucky to have been included in this group.   There were portraits, cityscapes, abstracts, still lifes, etc.   The collection showed the full range of modern and traditional watercolor styles.   45 paintings were chosen from 137 submissions.

Truth be told, there was a big part of me that was sure that my painting had been included just to make the other ones look better by comparison.   I don't have a lot of confidence in the quality of my work.

Imagine how overjoyed I was to see that my painting is one of two which were placed facing the entrance to the exhibit and are first to be seen in the collection.   That's mine on the left.   [The one on the right won a huge award.]  Perhaps my work is better than I think it is.

The museum does all the hanging and arrangement themselves.  WSI sends the photos and sizes and the museum staff takes over. Things were mostly arranged by subject.   The wall to the left of my painting held the rest of the landscapes.

On the way home, we all chose the paintings we loved most.   There were so many fabulous choices. [My favorite is the one with the swan.]  The gallery is in the admission free area of the museum.  If you get a chance to go see this show, it would be well worth your time.   I'd love to hear what your favorite pieces are.
