Jam Book Giveaway!

This is the Big Birthday Week and to celebrate, I'm giving away 3 copies of this terrific ebook all about making jam with low sugar pectin.

You might recognize it.  I wrote it myself!  [It's a really good book!]

It's a collection of the jam recipes [and marmalade recipes, and sauce recipes and marinade recipes and glaze recipes...] from the first couple of years of the blog.  Plus, there are sections on troubleshooting runny jam to firm it up, lists of high pectin and low pectin fruit, a whole section on why low-sugar pectin is my pectin of choice [including comparisons of different brands of pectin, etc.], and even a section on how to get that sugar burn off your nice Le Creuset pot.

It's an ebook - 7.7M interactive PDF file, which means you can click on stuff in the Table of Contents and Index and go right to that page in the book.   Handy!!   Plus, you can add your own bookmarks to make it even easier to zip around to your favorite recipes.

You can access the book in Adobe, iBook, and Kindle.  It works best in Adobe and iBook, so you can use it on your phone, or ipad, or laptop, or desktop computers. [Kindle lets you read PDFs, but they are not interactive.]

I know you'll want to look inside so take a look at the preview!  Check out that Table of Contents and then skim on over to the Tips list in the Index.    You need this book.

To win a copy of A Simple Jar of Jam, leave a comment on the blog or facebook, or Google +, or Twitter telling me what your favorite kind of jam is.

Giveaway ends at midnight EDT on Sunday, July 21, 2013.   Watch the blog next week to claim your prize.  I'll email you the file as soon as I get your email address.

Giveaway - Crochet Shawl Kit

It's time for another July Celebration Giveaway!

This giveaway is especially for my readers who love yarn.   I'm offering one of my hand dyed yarn kits that includes 4 skeins of gorgeous hand dyed cotton yarn [More than 1000 yds total] and a pattern for this beautiful crocheted ripple shawl.   It works up fast and easy.  [If you don't crochet, you can knit a simple ripple using large needles and you're good to go!]

This is a perfect summer project for traveling.  The finished shawl is light and lacy and good for summer evenings and air conditioned restaurants.

Winner gets her/his choice of these colors:

Nepeta works up like an impressionist painting.  Think Monet's garden.

These are the blues and lavenders of Cool Water.  [My personal favorite!]

We are homebodies. We usually grill out and then watch the fireworks on tv... the older I get, the more I hate being in crowds with obnoxious people!

Lanette, please email me with your mailing address and I'll get your towel right out to you!

Blogiversary Giveaway

It's been a while since I've done a giveaway on the blog and since we've just passed my two year blogiversary,  and since I just had my 100,000th pageview, and since it's that time in between winter and spring that is just so....so....transitionary-al-ish,  I thought we needed to give something away.  And, I thought it would be nice to give something away that is red.

Red is warm.   Red is good.  Red is the color that gets me from Christmas to March.

So I collected this cute little red whisk and this awesome grater/zester with the attachment that holds stuff like a nutmeg for you as you grate so you grate only the nutmeg and not your knuckles.   Because we don't want so see that kind of red.  They're both made by KitchenAid.

And I wrapped it all up with one of my own handwoven towels in a fabu red plaid, with stripes in cherry, lemon, lime, orange and sky blue.   I love these towels.  I wove them myself.  100% cotton.   Machine washed and dried already, so you don't have to treat it daintily.   Use it!   Love it!   Then toss it in the washer and dryer with all the rest of your towels.

The Rules:
  • Leave a comment telling me what you're looking forward to this spring.
  • Please consider friending/following me on facebook or Twitter or Google + [Links on my sidebar, near the top - that's what the barns are.]
  • Please consider voting in the cookbook poll at the top of my sidebar.
  • Open only to folks in the U.S.
Giveaway will be open until 11:59pm March 1st, 2013.  The winner will be selected at random from the comments and posted later that week.  Please only comment once.

If you want to see my other handwoven towels,  here's the link to the towel section of my Etsy shop.  I'm sure you'll find a color you love.

Winner - Charmed Knits

Thanks to everyone who stopped by the giveaway with weekend.   We hope you loved the new HP movie as much as we did!

According to random.org, the winner is #1, Kristy!
"We heart Harry Potter too. To gear up for the upcoming movie, the kids have been practicing their magic spells and we even played quittage with our cousins over the 4th of July weekend. Ærowyn keeps asking if Harry Potter and all the magic stuff is real. It hurts to say no because Brandon and I want it to be real too (except for all the bad magic of course). We love everything about the wizarding world. In fact, when we moved I made sure all the books got their own box and I labeled it really big so I would be sure to find them quickly. They have their own private space on my dresser :-) "

Kristy, email me [robin at morenna dot com] with your address and I'll get the book right out to you!

Giveaway - Charmed Knits

I heart the Harry Potter books.

I discovered them late.   The 4th one had been published and the 5th just about to be when I was convinced that they were worth reading by a trusted friend.    I got them from the public library and started at the beginning.  I was able to read the first 4 quickly.   It almost killed me to wait for the 5th.    And the 6th.    And the 7th.  And by then it was a family affair.   We all loved them.

There were so many rumors around who would die in the 7th, that the day the book came out, we went to the store and I opened it right there and read the epilog.

[Yes,  I read the end first.  The Harry Potter police did not catch me.   Neither did the You're Not Allowed to Read the End First police.    I live quite happily and sleep very well in spite of the fact that I do, on occasion, read the end of a book first.]

Once we agreed that we were satisfied with the end of the 7th book, I opened to Chapter 1 and started reading the book aloud right there in the store while Eric finished the shopping.   We read it in the car all the way home,  we read it through dinner and baths until a late bed time.   We got up in the morning and read it all day long, through breakfast, lunch, dinner and baths until we finished it about 2 in the morning.    Not only was a it a great book, it was a great family experience.   We smile whenever we talk about it.

We love Harry Potter.   We love the crazy food, the robes, the wands, the whole nine yards.   So, we're really excited about Part 2 of the 7th movie being released today.    We're probably there right now.

1.  Residents of the US and Canada only, please.
2.  Leave a comment on this post and please consider following the blog if you haven't already.  [No, you don't have to follow the blog to be in the drawing.   You do have to comment, though.]
3.  If you need something to talk about in your comment, tell us about your favorite Harry Potter book or character.
4.  The comments close on Sunday night July 17, 2011 at midnight.   I'll post the winner some time on Monday.

Good luck!

Giveaway - CLOSED

Another giveaway!   Because you're wonderful!    And I want to share cool stuff with you!

And on Father's Day weekend.   Because, let's face it, you made that whole 'father' thing possible for him.   Yep.

This weekend's giveaway is a new cotton T-shirt.    It's what stylish knitters are wearing this season.

Don't be fooled by the sizing - it runs a size smaller than it says.   The label says XXL.  Don't believe it.  It's a typical XL in fit, according to most bodies.

Here's a peak at the label so you know what it's made of:
Very soft.   And it will make you knit better, too.

Probably.

Maybe.

OK, maybe not.   But it will make you look like a better knitter.   Especially if you carry your needles and yarn around while you're wearing it.

Yep.

The Rules:

Leave a comment on this blog post.  If you want something to talk about, tell me all the places you'd wear this shirt.

Giveaway ends Sunday,  June, 19, 2011, at, midnight.     [Yeah, I kinda got carried away with the commas there.   Sorry.]

I'll post the winner sometime on Monday so you can email me with your address and stuff.   Winner must contact me by June 27 to claim prize.   Don't forget to check back!

Not that kind of hooking.   This kind of hooking.

Except in the summer I can do both on the deck outside."
The second winner, as generated by random. org is #13, Pat!

Giveaway - Cotton Sparkle Scarf

I got cocky and put all my cold weather clothes away.  It's late May!  It was over 80 degrees for several days in a row.   I got sunburned.

Dumb, dumb, dumb.   This is Indiana!  It's been 50 degrees for the last three days.  What was I thinking??

The good news is that I left all the boxes with my winter clothes in a giant pile outside the closet.   It's an irritating pile, but at least my sweats were easy to get to again.

Also, Eric found a cute purple zippy hooded sweatshirt jacket with stripes inside the hood - on sale! while he was at Walmart grocery shopping [How cool is that?!] - and I've had a chance to wear that around.  A lot.

Anyway, I'm having a 'Hope springeth eternal' moment.    Someday it is going to get warm and stay that way for a few months.   It's time to celebrate summer clothes.

And accessories.    So, I'm having a giveaway!

To celebrate the arrival of warm weather, I'm giving away a hand-dyed, handwoven, summer weight scarf.

The winner gets to choose the color.   I have these colors [L-R in the photo, left]:  Deep Blues, June, Old Brass, Sunset, Blue Vineyard, Fiesta, Olive.  Not shown:  Pink.
The scarf is 72 inches long [not including a couple of inches of fringe at each end], 6 inches wide.    The warp is a fine cotton boucle with a good drape that will continue to soften over time.   I wove these with a fine sparkle weft and the finished scarf is gauzy - you can see through it.

If you don't win, but would like to buy one, they are $57 each plus $2 shipping.   Email me - address below.

Rules:
1.  Please follow the blog.  [Look down on the right side of the blog - below the Other Cool Sites list.]
2.  Leave a comment telling me your favorite warm weather activity.
3.  One comment per person, please.

The giveaway closes at 12:01 a.m. Monday morning.   I'll post the winner sometime on Monday.   The winner should email me [robin at morenna dot com] with a mailing address and color choice and I'll get it right out.

Good luck!
