We have a cat who thinks he's a .... well, I'm not sure. Maybe he's just a cat with superpowers. It wouldn't be the first time we've had an animal with superpowers.
This is Blue. He used to be Hilary Fluff. Then Hilary's anatomy changed.
Surprise.
So Hilary became Blue.
And Blue grew. And grew. And became King of all he surveyed.
Blue loves wool. It's kind of weird. Whenever we get the wool out to spin or felt, Blue gets in the middle of it and sleeps.
Blue is a hunter.
Mice. Voles. Moles. Rabbits. Birds.
Notice the feathers on his whiskers. We think it was a titmouse. Apparently, he likes mice with fur and feathers.
Blue loves being outside and whenever we go on a walk, he insists on coming, too.
Insists.
Of course, he gets distracted and lags behind. Then he yowls at us to wait for him. Continuously. Like echo-location. It's noisy. It's annoying.
Really annoying.
But what makes me really think he has superpowers is his affection for water.
Yes, affection.
When it rains, he goes out and plays in it. He comes back to the house dripping wet.
He crosses the creeks by walking through the water. Or maybe he just walks on it.
It's kind of hard to tell.

Tibby
Tibby is a big black dog with a white chest and big brown eyes. I love her. She has a scar on her nose where she did combat with a snake once when she was a puppy. Since then, she doesn't much care for snakes, and really, who can blame her? I wouldn't like snakes either, if one bit me on the nose. I haven't been bitten on the nose by a snake though, so I still get along OK with snakes. In fact, I like them a whole lot and every time one shows up I go introduce myself and.....but I digress - this story isn't about snakes, it's about chickens.
Tib was still a bit of a puppy when she came to live with us. She'd belonged to a student who tried to bring her to college. It didn't work out so Tibby went back home to the student's farm to play with the horses and to fight snakes. She was smart and got into a lot of trouble. She missed the student.
At around the same time, it became apparent that our old dog was getting far to old to do his job.

Cheese, cheese, cheese
I love making cheese. I have made lovely, lovely chevre from the milk of my SIL's goats. Food. Of. The. Gods. Really. I had superpowers after I made and ate the first batch. I have also made mozzarella and ricotta. We regularly make yogurt - which is really just very very soft cheese - you could drown in it, it's so soft, but that would be a waste of really good yogurt.
We get all of our cultures from the New England Cheesemaking Supply Company.
Go to their site now. Be amazed. Start thinking about cheese. Read their blog: http://cheesemakinghelp.blogspot.com/ . Get inspired. Pick the cheeses you want to attempt.
Now let that lovely cheesy information culture for a while in your brain until my next post on cheese. Then let's try them!
