Crawdad Holes

People in civilized parts of the world call these crayfish holes.  Or maybe crawfish holes.

I learned about them from my dad, who was from Arkansas and they called them crawdads.

And that's what we call them.

When things start warming up in the spring, we get these mounds all over the place.

Weird.

Unless you're a crawdad, in which case, it's perfectly normal and probably quite irritating when someone mows over one and forces the mud back in the hole.

I have a couple of these pop up in my garden beds and I have spent entire seasons trying to catch and/or outsmart the beasts. Kind of like channeling Bill Murray in Caddyshack.\

So far the crawdads are winning.
