Dead Tree Dirt

Yes, this is just a bucket of dirt.

I ran out of potting soil to start my seeds in but I had read somewhere that dead hollow trees have great dirt at their bases and so Lily volunteered to go check out our hollow beech trees.   Sure enough, she found loads of this stuff, so she brought a bucketful back and we used it in our milk jugs.

It's beautiful, isn't it.

  2. I also found some dirt from a dead tree I cut down, the dirt was on the top of the tree where few years ago a perfectly healthy tree broke off from the top, after a few years of sun and rain seeping into the top of the tree, bugs and beetles starting livin in it and larvae. I figured it was the most richest soil I ever seen, did you find a lot of bugs in your soil? how is the growing process going with it? I started my seeds today I cant wait to see what happens next week.

  3. I took a few water bottles and cut them to about 2 inches and filled it up with the dirt and added water than put it in the window, after a hour and so, I saw tiny tiny worms moving in it, it looked like mini maggots. I hope they help it grow lol
