Giveaway - Charmed Knits

I heart the Harry Potter books.

I discovered them late.   The 4th one had been published and the 5th just about to be when I was convinced that they were worth reading by a trusted friend.    I got them from the public library and started at the beginning.  I was able to read the first 4 quickly.   It almost killed me to wait for the 5th.    And the 6th.    And the 7th.  And by then it was a family affair.   We all loved them.

There were so many rumors around who would die in the 7th, that the day the book came out, we went to the store and I opened it right there and read the epilog.

[Yes,  I read the end first.  The Harry Potter police did not catch me.   Neither did the You're Not Allowed to Read the End First police.    I live quite happily and sleep very well in spite of the fact that I do, on occasion, read the end of a book first.]

Once we agreed that we were satisfied with the end of the 7th book, I opened to Chapter 1 and started reading the book aloud right there in the store while Eric finished the shopping.   We read it in the car all the way home,  we read it through dinner and baths until a late bed time.   We got up in the morning and read it all day long, through breakfast, lunch, dinner and baths until we finished it about 2 in the morning.    Not only was a it a great book, it was a great family experience.   We smile whenever we talk about it.

We love Harry Potter.   We love the crazy food, the robes, the wands, the whole nine yards.   So, we're really excited about Part 2 of the 7th movie being released today.    We're probably there right now.

To share our love of all things Harry Potter, this weekend I'm giving away a copy of Charmed Knits: Projects for fans of Harry Potter,  by Alison Hansel.    It's a wonderful collection of knitted projects that will transport you right into the world of Harry Potter.

The rules:

1.  Residents of the US and Canada only, please.
2.  Leave a comment on this post and please consider following the blog if you haven't already.  [No, you don't have to follow the blog to be in the drawing.   You do have to comment, though.]
3.  If you need something to talk about in your comment, tell us about your favorite Harry Potter book or character.
4.  The comments close on Sunday night July 17, 2011 at midnight.   I'll post the winner some time on Monday.

Good luck!

  1. We heart Harry Potter too. To gear up for the upcoming movie, the kids have been practicing their magic spells and we even played quittage with our cousins over the 4th of July weekend. Ærowyn keeps asking if Harry Potter and all the magic stuff is real. It hurts to say no because Brandon and I want it to be real too (except for all the bad magic of course). We love everything about the wizarding world. In fact, when we moved I made sure all the books got their own box and I labeled it really big so I would be sure to find them quickly. They have their own private space on my dresser :-)

  2. why has no one commented on this so far? Aren't there any other huge Harry Potter fans out there besides us!?! Oh - I know why they haven't commented. They're out at the movie, right now.

  3. A friend of mine recently enabled me to your Etsy store and here I am. My kids came home around 2:30 this morning from the midnight showing of the last Harry Potter movie. They had a great time! I'll be seeing it with my hubby at a later date. This would be a fun book to have in my repertoire! Thank you for offering the giveaway. Off to look at all your colorful yarns!

  4. I love the books, too, Robin. Fantasy has become one of my favorite genres. Just got back from the movie and wish I could see it in 3-D. My stomach moved a few times as it was. Sarted a HP movie marathon last night to prep for the movie. Made it through 2, but fell asleep on the 3rd. I love to read the books to see what they got right. Sure do miss Peeves though.

  5. Love the whole series. I wouldn't know how to pick a favorite book. Although I can say that I liked Order of the Phoenix the least. Between Harry screaming at everyone and Professor Umbridge it was too stressful, and I wanted to smack it.

Wait! Maybe I do have favorites: Prisoner of Azkaban, Half Blood Prince, and Deathly Hallows. They grabbed me a touch more than the others.

Rowling is flat-out brilliant. So glad to have her world in ours.

  6. Hi Robin. Please don't enter me in this giveaway, the Sorting Hat can find a better house than mine for this book. But I did post on my blog today, sorry it's so late.

  7. I do the exact same thing, read the end of the book last. The final book was so moving. Even though I hated the deaths at the end. I'm glad it wasn't a rosy sunny ending (Like twilight.)
I know, gasp huh? Mention twlight and Harry Potter in the same sentence!

  8. I am a big Harry Potter fan!! I got my 11 year old granddaughter all caught up on all the movies a couple of weeks ago and then she went back to TN (I live in SC) so I couldn't take her to the last movie but if I win this I will give it to her. I read all the books and loved them. I can't believe no more HP books, no more HP movies :o(
